Logic King 1.0

Print Size - 20” x 30”

Origin

A tribute to one of my favorite current musicians. Expressing gratitude to your influences has been a theme in Logic's music that resonates with the diverse background of music/culture/history in my own life experiences. Logic's music lifted me through some of life's most challenging moments and this painting is my "Thank-you" note.

“Wu-Tang, get the cream, Sinatra 'gon reign supreme.
Hoping your mental get out your feelins like dental. This shit is consequential, lightin' a fire to the game. Can you rappers feel the flame? Nah, this shit won't be the same.
Fuck a rap beef, I promise I want all of y'all to prosper. But deep down you know it's only 'gon be one Mufasa.”

~YSIV - The Return, by Logic

Inspiration

Most inspiration is laid out plainly for everyone to see. As gratitude is the theme for this series, this pieces dives deep into the lyrics of the song “The Return”. Wishing prosperity to all, but also providing a mindset. Speaking the words feels very different than hearing them.

Have you ever tried turning music into a painting? The record is used twice as both symbolic and literal environmental rhythm. At the top of the piece, the highlights of the record bounce off from the warm sunrise, as well as frame the YSIV from the label. Below the midway point, the darker values of the record are used to create motion and thread the rhythmic vibrations throughout the whole piece.

Color and Composition

Compositionally, it’s like a ladder of triangles that obscure negative space and positive form. Building momentum as you move throughout the piece, spiraling up until you reach the peak. Like fireworks, the spiral unleashes into waves of light cast down. New shapes emerge from the negative space while staring into the geometric structure.

The color advances a step toward the plot line, continuing from the previous piece in the series. Progressing from red/orange, into orange/yellow. The Wu Tang Clan logo shines with the sunrise and the record label, which truly highlight this piece. Green is used as conceptual grounding thread from piece to piece, which Logic is wearing in a camouflage pattern.

Additional Information

It is coincidence that Logic released his album “College Park” the same day I released this painting. The universe is speaking.
